Dinesh Karthik leapfrog Ms. Dhoni to achieve this rare feat in T 20 cricket

On January 27, during the match against Durban Super Giants, Paarl Royals’ Dinesh Karthik surpassed MS Dhoni in the list of leading run-scorers in T20 cricket. Karthik required only three runs to surpass Dhoni, and he was able to generate this huge record in T20 cricket with 21 runs from 15 balls with two sixes.

With 7451 runs in 361 T20 innings at 26.99 and a strike rate of 136.84 with 34 half-centuries and smashed 258 sixes along with 718 fours in his career till now. On the other hand, Dhoni has scored 7432 runs in 342 innings at an average of 38.11 and a strike rate of 135.64 with almost the same sort of average, hitting 517 fours and 338 sixes in the process. Be that as it may, for most runs, a wicketkeeper-batter, Dhoni is ahead, having racked up 7160 runs in 332 innings, while Karthik managed to score 6547 runs in 308 innings.

Interestingly, the former Chennai Super Kings skipper would have an opportunity to overhaul Karthik in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). Karthik, on the other hand, bowed out of all Indian cricketing activities at the end of the 2024 IPL season.

Getting 26 runs to go past Dhoni on the list when the second SA20 started was a small matter; he had thought that he would go past Dhoni in a couple of games, but some stellar performances by the Royals meant that Karthik had only batted on five occasions out of eight inns, not performing well in both the games he got a chance to bat.

But this seasoned campaigner did accomplish this while bagging the most at the end even while Royale Paarl sit atop the points table with seven wins from eight games.
