‘Dhoni Should Never Retire, Instead He Should…’, Sunil Gavaskar Surprising Comment On MS Dhoni’s Career

There is no clear information about MS Dhoni’s future in the IPL 2024. After the five-time champions were eliminated, Dhoni did not share his plans. Reports say he has asked the franchise for some time before deciding. Dhoni is currently 42 and will be a year older next season.

Dhoni had limited appearances in the 17th season, and despite calls for him to promote himself in the batting order, he chose not to. He faced criticism for this decision but remained steadfast. Reports suggested that Dhoni was dealing with a muscle tear in his knee, which affected his ability to bat freely.

Former India player Sunil Gavaskar expressed admiration for the former CSK skipper, hailing him as the most successful captain in the cash-rich league’s history. However, he also commented on the reports of MSD’s retirement.

‘I feel he will make a big announcement on July 7. He should never announce retirement from the Indian Premier League. Instead, he should stop playing in it. Whenever Dhoni feels fine, he can return to the league. Even BCCI will not be able to stop him as he will not retire from the tournament,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

Dhoni had passed on the captaincy of CSK to Ruturaj Gaikwad before the season began, but this decision did not change the fortune of Chennai Super Kings. Although CSK had won the title in 2023, they were unable to defend it and did not qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2024.
