With several experienced cricketers resting to manage their playing time, young Dewald Brevis got a chance to play in the upcoming Test series against Zimbabwe. He’s in the starting lineup for the first Test in Bulawayo, and before the game, the 22-year-old talked about his career so far. He said he was thankful for the chance he’s been given.
Brevis remembered when he didn’t make the Test team. But, he practiced a lot to get better and got back on the team. Calling it ‘special’, he talked about how important Test cricket is, calling it the best part of the sport.
“Being there and then not being picked for a while was hard. But I was also young. I am thankful for how I dealt with that and the people who supported me. It made me want to play and do well even more. I knew what I needed to do, so I committed and kept believing, Brevis said at the press conference.
“Being able to come back, especially on the Test team, is really cool. I think it’s the best kind of game. You can play in every league, T20s, and 50-over games, but Test cricket is different. It’s the top, he said.
Brevis also mentioned that he wants to play all three types of cricket soon. He said he’s been watching the ball closely to get better and bat for longer periods. He wants to concentrate on each moment, instead of changing his style.
“I want to be the same person, no matter the game. I don’t want to change much. It’s about watching the ball and staying true to myself. Everyone knows you have to bat for a long time. To do that, you have to watch each ball and not change how you play it. So, I’m not going to change anything, Brevis said.
