Delhi Capitals assistant coach Hemang Badani praised Karun Nair after his impressive performance against the Mumbai Indians. He mentioned that Nair had scored nine hundreds this season and was really eager for a chance to play. Nair has been on fire in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and keeps delivering in the Ranji Trophy, and now he’s also making strides in the IPL after being away for three years.
Nair was doing well in the chase against Mumbai, but his wicket fell, and the team lost three players to runouts in the 19th over, which was tough for him. Badani noted how Nair has been itching to get back on the field, asking him repeatedly when he’d get to play and wanting extra time in the nets.
Not many players can hit two sixes off Jasprit Bumrah in a single over, but Nair credited his preparation for that success, having scored 1,870 runs in domestic matches this season. After the game, Nair shared that he felt confident because he had played in the IPL before and knew what to expect. He just wanted to settle in and get used to the game’s pace again.
Nair talked about starting with regular shots in the Powerplay and then mixing things up later in the innings. I told myself to take my time, play normal shots, and improvise when needed. Thankfully, it all worked out, and I’m glad I batted well, he said. The Capitals will face the Rajasthan Royals next on April 16 at home.
