Delhi Capitals Approached Rohit Sharma To Become Their Captain In IPL 2024, This Is What Mumbai Indians Franchise Replied

Before the much-awaited IPL Auction, a lot of things were happening among all the ten franchises. Some player trades to captaincy changes have been coming into the frame every day. The biggest among them was Hardik Pandya’s trade to Mumbai Indians from his old team Gujarat Titans and then appointing Hardik as the skipper of Mumbai Indians for the 2024 edition.

Several weeks after rejoining his former franchise, Pandya has taken over from Sharma, who captained Mumbai to an impressive five IPL titles during his 11-year captaincy stint. Now, there are reports circulating within the cricketing community suggesting that Delhi Capitals have initiated discussions with MI for a potential trade involving Rohit Sharma ahead of the IPL 2024 season.

According to a report by Sports Today, Delhi Capitals wanted an experienced player to be the skipper of the side as their prime captain Rishabh Pant will be playing as an impact player due to his injury issues. However, MI is not ready for the deal and reportedly they have denied the proposal.

In order to take the services of Hardik Pandya once again, they had to release all-rounder Cameron Green who was traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore in an all-cash deal amounting to INR 17.50 crore. This strategic move was essential to ensure they had a sufficient purse amount to get Pandya back in the team.

Not to forget, Rohit Sharma is the most successful captain in the history of the Indian Premier League, and under his captaincy, Mumbai has lifted the title five times, particularly in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.

Rohit Sharma has captained Mumbai Indians in 158 matches and won 87 of them. He lost 67 matches and has a win percentage of 55.06.
