DC vs GT, IPL 2024: ‘I Think Impact Player Has a Bit Of a Role’, Shubman Gill Reaction After The Loss Against Gujarat Titans

It was too close for Gujarat Titans yet too far in the 40th match of the IPL 2024 where Delhi Capitals beat the 2022 champion by four runs. GT needed 19 runs off the last six balls but failed to get against Mukesh Kumar with Rashid Khan standing for Gujarat.

After the match, the GT skipper Shubman Gill has said that he is not very much disappointed with the players and the kind of performance they gave against Delhi. He also talked about the impact rule, which is favouring the batters and it is really helping a team to build a high score.

While talking during the post-match presentation, Gill said,”I think we played some really good cricket, disappointing to lose in the end, but great character shown by everyone. Great fight till the end and we never thought we were out of the game at any point. When you’re chasing 224, there’s no point in talking about plans, just go out and score runs. I think impact players has a bit of a role (in making the matches high scoring), even if you lose extra wickets, extra cushion is there for the batters to keep going and it gives the license for the batters to keep going till the end.”

Gill also talked about the poor bowling display at the death overs, especially those two overs.

He further added,”At one stage, we thought we would be able to restrict them to 200-210, but we gave away some extra runs in the last 2-3 overs. But this is a smallish ground, we spoke about the same when we went out to chase. Execution becomes very important, if there’s a set batter or a finisher, you’ll have to execute well. It’s okay if there’s something in the wicket, but on pitches like this, you’ll have to make sure that you execute all your plans perfectly, be it the yorkers or the variations.”

In this match, Delhi Capitals posted a total of 224 runs at the loss of four wickets in alloted 20 overs. For Delhi, skipper Rishabh Pant scored the maximum 88 runs off just 43 balls which includes five fours and eight sixes. All-rounder Axar Patel also got 66 runs for the team.

For GT, Sai Sudharsan scored the maximum 65 runs, apart from him David Miller got 55 runs and Wriddhiman Saha contributed 33 runs with the bat.

For Delhi Capitals, Rasikh Dar Salam grabbed three wickets, Kuldeep Yadav got two wickets. On the other hand, Anrich Nortje, Axar Patel and Mukesh Kumar got one wicket each.
