David Warner showcased his classic form in the opening T20I against West Indies on February 9 at Bellerive Oval, Hobart. The left-handed batsman delivered a stunning performance and scored 70 runs off 36 balls which included 12 boundaries and a six. With the help of Warner’s solid knock, Australia set a huge total of 213/7 in their 20 overs.

Responding to Australia’s formidable total, the West Indies put up a resilient effort, reaching 202/8 in their designated 20 overs. Despite their strong performance, Australia emerged victorious and secured an 11-run win. David Warner notched up his 25th T20I half-century and was named the Player of the Match. During the post-match presentation, the veteran talked about his retirement from international cricket.

“Pleasing to get the win on the board. Was a nice wicket to bat on and you have to make the most of it. Feel great and refreshed, I’m pumped. I want to play the T20 World Cup and finish there and it’s a good journey we’ve got going for the next 6 months. Pretty much the same squad going to New Zealand so it’s important we win there as well,” Warner said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to commence on June 1 and set to take place in the West Indies and the USA. David Warner, who received the Player of the Tournament accolade in the 2021 T20 World Cup finished as the second-highest run-scorer of the competition and scored 289 runs from seven innings.
