David Warner, the seasoned opening batsman for Australia, began his ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign by smashing the outstanding T20I record held by former Australia captain Aaron Finch.
Finch’s record for most T20I runs scored for Australia has been broken by Warner. Prior to Warner’s 56-run innings against Oman in Australia’s opening Twenty20 World Cup match at Kensington Oval in Barbados, Finch held the record with 3120 runs.
Warner is now leading Australia’s all-time run charts in Twenty20 Internationals, having scored 3155 runs in the game’s shortest version.
After an early hiccup, the southpaw saved Australia and ultimately got out after striking a beautifully sliced fifty (56 off 51 balls).
After Oman reduced them to 50 for the loss of three wickets in 8.3 overs, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 winners were put in early difficulties.
