Danish Kaneria, a former Pakistani cricketer, claims he dealt with major discrimination in Pakistan, which ruined his career. He says he wasn’t treated fairly or with respect there. On Wednesday, he spoke at a Congressional Briefing about the problems minorities face in Pakistan.
Talking to ANI at the event, Kaneria said, We all got together today to talk about the discrimination we’ve faced and to speak out about it. I also faced discrimination in Pakistan, and it destroyed my career.
Kaneria played 61 Tests for Pakistan and is the second Hindu to play for the Pakistani cricket team, after Anil Dalpat. He took 261 wickets in those 61 matches, making him Pakistan’s top wicket-taking spinner.
Shri Thanedar, an Indian-American US Congressman, also went to the event. He urged the US to call out Pakistan for its human rights violations against Hindu minorities and to demand quick action to stop these bad things from happening.
Thanedar told ANI that he was at the conference to support Hindus struggling against the terrible treatment in Pakistan. He wants the US State Department to put sanctions on Pakistan until the cruelty stops.
Hindu Action is holding this conference at the Rayburn House Office Building of the US Congress, and I’m here to back the Hindus and their fight for human rights, their fight to end the awful things happening to Hindu minorities in Pakistan. Many girls are being forced to change their religion. Hindu people are being kidnapped, and I’m here to insist that the State Department do something, take economic actions, put sanctions against Pakistan until these bad things stop, Thanedar said.
He added, We’re asking the US State Department to strongly condemn these actions. The United States should strongly condemn these human rights violations against Hindu minorities in Pakistan and take quick action, not just talk, but also take quick action like imposing economic sanctions against Pakistan to make sure these atrocities stop.
I didn’t get equal treatment or respect in Pakistan. Everyone who came here spoke out against discrimination and how Pakistan treated them. So, the main goal was to make everyone, especially the US, aware of how people are suffering and the problems in Pakistan, and to take action against it.
