Head coach Daniel Vettori said that Kamindu Mendis’ catch to dismiss Dewald Brevis was a game changer for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Chennai Super Kings on Friday, April 25. The Sunrisers won by five wickets, moving up to eighth in the IPL 2025 points table with a net run rate of -1.103. Brevis, who was making his debut for CSK, quickly scored 42 runs off 25 balls with one four and four sixes before Mendis cut his innings short.
Brevis tried to hit a big shot off Harshal Patel but ended up giving an easy catch to Mendis, who timed it perfectly. Vettori acknowledged that if Brevis had stayed longer at the crease, he could have helped CSK set a much tougher target for SRH. He said, It’s just instinct. Some fielders get only a couple of catches like that in their career. It was a special moment, especially since Brevis was starting to take control and putting pressure on us.
After Brevis got out, CSK managed only 40 runs from their last 43 balls, ending up with 154 in 19.5 overs. The Sunrisers chased it down comfortably with eight balls remaining. Next, they will face the Gujarat Titans led by Shubman Gill on Friday, May 2, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
