The management of the Indian cricket team took a firm decision to support KL Rahul, and the stand-in captain gave his best in the last two matches. In spite of the heart-wrenching loss the Indian team inflicted upon themselves, KL Rahul’s brilliance left the spectators in awe.
In the two matches, he made the needed runs twice, each time with a stylish show of a half-century. The former South African pacer Dale Steyn has surprised everyone by saying that if KL Rahul came in to bat earlier, then the result would have been a lot different, and he would have scored nothing less than a huge century.
Steyn forecasted KL Rahul ton showing up in higher order
KL Rahul taking over the captaincy in Shubman Gill’s absence is a plus for the Indian team in the ongoing series against South Africa. India started with a thrilling victory but then suffered a heavy defeat which slowed down the momentum, but Rahul’s magnificence was never affected. Even after coming down from his usual opening place, he was in the middle order and scored back-to-back fifties.
While the Indian batsman is gaining popularity through his performance, the South African cricket great Dale Steyn made an amazing statement. The star cricketer who was speaking on Star Sports said that KL Rahul would have certainly scored a big hundred easily if he had batted higher in the order.
“He just knows the way. If he batted three or opened the innings again, I am very sure he would get the hundreds too just because of the few deliveries he faced. But those spots are for other players and he understands what his role is in the team. And in the two games so far, he has played superb innings,” he commented.
Steyn remains captivated by KL Rahul’s cricketing intellect
KL Rahul has been adapting to every role during the years while moving around in the batting order, taking the lead, and yet still producing pure class. Rahul’s batting in the last two matches was a luxury for the Indian team, but his captaincy was the main factor behind India winning. Thus, Dale Steyn commended Rahul’s captaincy.
“A good, handy knock set by the skipper, KL. He has led his team well in the first one, managed to up the ante when he needed to. And again today there was a period when he went semi-slow with Jadeja. South Africa bowled well in that little transitional period there, and in the last over they picked up the most expensive over of the innings,” he added.
The impending third ODI match has turned into a decider after India suffered a bitter loss in the second ODI match. With the winning side taking the series with just one victory in the next match, both teams will come into the match with full force.
