Very few batsmen can challenge the great Curtly Ambrose in terms of how difficult they are to reach. But he was once able to bowl disobediently by troubling some of them like Sunil Gavaskar or Geoffrey Boycott, who were pure geniuses with bat on hand that made life hellish for any bowler. It’s no wonder then that legendary fast bowler Ambrose among others would want to have a go at a super player like Kohli because of their extraordinary batting talent.
Ambrose has mentioned the contemporary best cricket players that he could have bowled to: Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and Joe Root as cited by ANI. Ambrose has recently shared the players from today’s generation that he would have loved to bowl against them when he was playing cricket. “These are my favorite batsmen: Virat, Smith, Root,” Ambrose said.
Meanwhile, Kohli and Smith alongside Root have no doubt been the most famous and successful batsmen for their nations after debuting internationally and are currently among the best players today too as regards batting performances in Tests. Kohli is remembered as being one of those who scored an unprecedented 49 centuries in ODIs while Root and Smith have accumulated bags of runs not only in Test matches but in all forms of this type of game.
Nonetheless, to carry on with the discussion, Ambrose pointed out that whenever someone mentions their favorite cricketer, it is always a batter who overshadows bowlers. He also claimed that anytime anyone asks him who his favorite cricketer is he would always mention a bowler’s name and picked Wasim Akram from Pakistan as one of them.
“And sometimes yes, I do feel like that. I am in this for so long. Many times if someone asks you to name your favorite cricketer; he would mention a batsman.” I have had great matches with them; I look up to them in some ways,” he continued saying “But being a former fast bowler; I will go for bowlers.” “Wasim Akram happens to be among my most favoured fast bowlers,” he added.
Significantly, Akram has 916 wickets to his name which make him the sixth leading wicket-taker in international cricket including 502 wickets taken in 356 ODIs and 414 wickets taken in 104 Tests.
