It has been reported that Chennai Super Kings will make every effort to acquire the services of Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin in the mega auction of the IPL 2025. Ashwin, who featured for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024, has not been kept by the Jaipur based side and that was confirmed on Thursday 31st October. A story in the Times of India on Saturday 2 November confirmed that Ashwin is in the books of CSK.
There’s another 50 to 60 words regarding Ashwin, which is: CSK had earlier signed him in 2009 and he went on to become a South Zone champion with the team as well as an IPL champion. He enjoyed a successful IPL career with the team until the year 2015 even before going to play for the Rising Pune Supergiants, subsequent seasons with Punjab Kings, Delhi Daredevils, and Rajasthan Royals.
A while ago, Ashwin had said that he would be happy to join IPL CSK again. The cricketer from Chennai, who played from 2009 till 2015 for CSK, has featured in 97 games for the franchise and has taken 90 wickets.
Apart from that, it has also been reported by TOI that the five time champions are looking to use Right To Match (RTM) for Devon Conway, the New Zealand batter. CSK lost Devon Conway during the IPL 2022 mega auctions but signed him, and over the last three seasons, he has accumulated 924 runs in 23 matches for the franchise.
According to the sources, apart from Conway, CSK would also be very much interested in buying back, Raichan Ravindra and Mitchell Santner, the New Zealand all-rounders, along with Indian pacers Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur in the big auctions.
CSK has retained five players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions. Heavy amounts were invested as Indian Rupees 18 crores each for Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja, Sri Lankan cricketer Matheesha Pathirana was retained for Rs 13 crores and Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube was retained for Rs 12 crores. In IPL 2025, the mahendra Singh Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings will also feature one of the greatest wicketkeeper batsmen of his generation, Dhoni, who was retained as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore.
Dhoni had decided to resign from his position as captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) before the commencement of IPL 2024. He handed over the leadership to the opening batsman Gaikwad, who has been with the team since the 2019 season.
In the 2024 season of the lucrative league, CSK could not make it to the playoffs, since they lost the last league phase encounter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
