Cricket Australia Gave Special Gift To Sachin Tendulkar On His 50th Birthday

On the occasion of legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar’s 50th birthday, a gate named after him was unveiled at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Monday. Tendulkar turned 50 on Monday. He scored 785 runs in five Tests at the SCG at an average of 157, with the highest score of 241 not out. Tendulkar termed SCG as his favourite cricket ground outside India.

Tendulkar said in a statement issued by the SCG, “Sydney Cricket Ground has been my favourite ground outside India. I have some special memories attached to the SCG right from my first tour of Australia in 1991-92.”

A gate named after Brian Lara was also unveiled at the SCG to mark 30 years of Brian Lara’s innings of 277 runs. SCG President Rod McGeoch, CEO Kerry Mather, and Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley unveiled both gates. Sachin Tendulkar and Brain Lara now join the club of Donald Bradman, Alan Davidson and Arthur Morris. These legends have the name of the gate in SCG.

Players will now enter the ground through the Lara-Tendulkar gate. A sign has also been installed on both these gates, on which the achievements of these two players and their records in SCG have been described.

After this great gesture from Cricket Australia, Sachin Tendulkar said, “It is a great honour that the players will use the gate to enter the SCG, which has been named after me and my good friend Brian. I express my gratitude to SCG and Cricket Australia for this. Will visit SCG soon.”

Brain Lara also reacted to this great honour shown by Cricket Australia and said, “I am feeling extremely honoured by this recognition from the Sydney Cricket Ground, and I am sure Sachin must be feeling the same. My family and I have special memories of this ground, and I always enjoy visiting it whenever I am in Australia.”
