Corbin Bosch achieves this unique record in test cricket

Corbin Bosch of South Africa greatly contributed to his team’s victory over Zimbabwe in the first Test of their two-game series in Bulawayo.

In his second Test match, Bosch scored a century not out and then took five wickets, which helped South Africa win by 328 runs on Tuesday at the Queens Sports Club.

Bosch is now the fourth South African cricketer to score a century and take five wickets in the same Test. The others are Jimmy Sinclair (1899), Aubrey Faulkner (1910), and Jacques Kallis (1999 and 2002). Sinclair was the first player ever to reach this milestone, with Faulkner following after. Bosch is the first South African to achieve this in a Test match played away from home.

Bosch, who is 30 years old, played his first Test in December 2024 against Pakistan in Centurion. In that game, he scored 81 not out and took five wickets. He also got out on his first ball in the second innings, yet South Africa still won by two wickets.

With this win, South Africa has now won nine Test matches in a row, tying their best streak from 2002-03. This winning run started with a 40-run victory over the West Indies in August 2024. They recently made history by winning their first ICC World Test Championship, defeating the previous champions, Australia, in a thrilling final at Lord’s.

Australia holds the record for the longest winning streak in Test history, with 16 straight wins. They first achieved this from October 1999 to February 2001 and then again between 2005 and 2008.

This loss was Zimbabwe’s biggest defeat in Tests in terms of run margin. Before this, their largest defeat was against Sri Lanka by 315 runs in Galle.
