Team India star batter Virat Kohli shared his admiration for the IPL ahead of the upcoming 2024 season.
Virat emphasized the connection between the players and the fans. Which is the main reason for everyone to follow the mega-cash-rich league.
Virat is currently out of action due to personal reasons, as he is not part of India’s squad, which is playing test cricket against England.
However, Virat Kohli is set to return to cricket as Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Chennai Super Kings in the IPL opener on March 22.
In his interaction with Star Sports, Virat said, “I absolutely love IPL, also because of the camaraderie you share, so many new players you play with, so many players that you’ve known for a long time who are not from your own country, whom you don’t see often. There’s a reason why everyone loves IPL so much, as there’s a connection, both for players and fans.”
Kohli also shared his opinion on how the IPL is different from all the ICC tournaments. Kohli said in the IPL, the players can interact with the opposition after every game, which is what makes the IPL different from ICC tournaments.
Virat said, “You do play all your tournaments, which is one team versus another. ICC tournaments come every now and then, but even in ICC tournaments, you don’t interact with other players or see the other team so often. But in IPL, you’re probably meeting every team just every second or third day, and that’s the beauty of IPL. You are playing in different conditions in a different city with a different team. Everybody has a different kind of determination at various stages of the tournament, and such magical moments are being created.”
Virat Kohli had a phenomenal IPL season in 2023 with the bat, as the stalwart stole the show, scoring 639 runs in 14 IPL matches, including two centuries.
