The former Indian captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly shared a mysterious tweet about the BCCI searching for its next head coach. He suggested that the cricket board should choose the coach carefully because it is going to decide the fortune of the team in the upcoming years.
After Rahul Dravid announced his departure after the 2024 T20 World Cup, the BCCI started looking for his replacement. Justin Langer and Ricky Ponting have said they’re not interested, and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah clarified they weren’t asked anyway. Now, the former Indian batter is the first and foremost choice for the team.
Gambhir took to his official ‘X’ handle and wrote, “The coach’s significance in one’s life, their guidance, and relentless training shape the future of any person, both on and off the field. So choose the coach and institution wisely.”
Gautam Gambhir’s name came into the limelight after the Kolkata Knight Riders won the 17th edition of IPL 2024, but he hasn’t been a coach yet, just a mentor. So, the BCCI might have some doubts about making him a coach.
Dravid has achieved satisfactory outcomes since taking over from Ravi Shastri after the 2021 T20 World Cup. Nonetheless, he hasn’t managed to overcome India’s ICC trophy drought yet. The 2024 T20 World Cup will be his last chance to bring any prestigious trophy to team India.
