Capitals Roped In This England Star For The Inaugural ILT20 League

Joe Root, a former England Test captain, has joined the Dubai Capitals for the International T20 League’s debut season. The 31-year-old joined the franchise to try his luck as an all-format player once more after taking a long break from franchise cricket to regain his limited-overs mojo again.

The middle-order batsman is currently absent from England’s T20 lineup but hopes to return soon. Root has also signed up for the forthcoming IPL 2023 mini-auction when he will be auctioned off for a starting bid of INR 1 crore.

Following Root’s agreement with their sister team, it is anticipated that Delhi Capitals will express interest in him as well and offer him his first deal in the lucrative league. The auction is slated for December 23 in Kochi, and because Root has registered for the first time in a long time, all eyes will be on him.

Check out the tweet by Dubai Capitals’ official Twitter handle:

In 88 T20 games throughout his career, Joe Root has scored 2083 runs with a strike rate of 126.70. In the game’s shortest format, the Englishman averages 32.54 and has 22 wickets at an 8.56 economy rate.
He played in 32 T20I matches for the international cricket team, recording 893 runs with a strike rate of 126.30. In the process, he also took six wickets. Now, Root can be a benefit in the smallest format of the game of T20 cricket, where every franchise searches for a quality all-rounder.
Ahead of the new season, the Dubai Capitals also added the 31-year-old to their squad along with Rovman Powell, Dushmantha Chameera, Hazratullah Zazai, Fabian Allen, Mujeeb Ur Raman, Sikandar Raza, Niroshan Dickwella, Dasun Shanaka, Bhanuka Rajapaskha, Dan Lawrence, Blessing Muzarabani, Isuru Udana, George Munsey, and Fred.
