“Can’t play …”Babar Azam gives a massive statement on the team’s performance after Pakistan beat Ireland in their final match of the world cup

Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, regretted the errors his team made in their previous games against India and the USA in Group A. Despite this, the former champions ended their T20 World Cup campaign with a three-wicket victory over Ireland in Lauderhill. Babar was present to witness Pakistan’s win against Ireland, contributing an unbeaten 32 runs in their pursuit of 107, which they almost lost. “I believe the bowling conditions were favorable for our bowlers. However, we made some mistakes in our batting during the games against the USA and India. When you lose wickets, the pressure increases on you,” Babar explained during the post-match presentation.

“Sir, I’ve mentioned earlier that everyone is feeling down (due to our performance). We didn’t work together as a team. This isn’t about one person; we lost as a whole team. It’s not only the captain’s fault. I can’t cover for every player since there are 11 of them. They are in the World Cup because each one has a specific job. We didn’t execute our plans well, and we need to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. I admit that we didn’t play as a team,” Babar explained during a press conference after the match.

Pakistan started off by losing their first two games in Group A against India and the USA, but then they won against Canada and Ireland.

Babar was glad that his team won the last game of the tournament.

“We did well to end on a high note. We got some early wickets while bowling. But while batting, we didn’t do as well. We kept losing wickets one after another, but managed to win in the end.” Babar mentioned that Pakistan needs to quickly reorganize, but he didn’t clearly say if he will continue as the captain.

“Let’s think about what our team needs, and I’m fine with it. We have a strong group of players, so we should go home, talk, and figure out where we made mistakes, then return,” he said.

Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, who won the player of the match award later, mentioned that they didn’t play the style of cricket their country expects in the tournament.

“We didn’t play the type of cricket our country wants, and we need to work on a few things. The outcome is disappointing,” Afridi explained.

Ireland’s captain, Paul Stirling, said they never found the right mix of players.

“It’s about finding the right mix. In T20…we probably didn’t get it right this time. It’s been a tough few weeks. We’ll go back, reorganize, and try to come back stronger,” he observed.
