Young star Indian opener Shubhman Gill has been performing marvelously since his debut. He has played 15 matches in One-Day Internationals and has scored 687 runs with an outstanding average of 57.25. His innings are laced with four fifties and one century, with the highest score of 130 runs. Shubham Gill has been the best batter in the One Day Internationals format for India this year, but he still needs to get a place in the three-match ODI series squad against Bangladesh.
Looking at the experienced Indian side, veteran players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul barely played any ODI matches. They will not be seen in the ODI format after a few times. In that case, the players like Gill need the experience to perform well in the big event.
Taking this as a serious note, former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra raised his voice and said that if Gill is not getting the place in the main squad when senior players are available, then why do you select him in the first place?
“Shubman Gill is performing really well. He wasn’t a part of the T20 World Cup. So he’s not tired at all. He doesn’t need workload management at all but he has not been selected for the Bangladesh tour. But why? He isn’t doing anything wrong. And if you think you can’t select him even after doing well then don’t select him in the first place because it defies logic,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Shubham Gill is not only the player who hasn’t got a place in the ODI squad against Bangladesh but also Sanju Samson, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal haven’t got a place in the squad.
Currently, the men in blue have been preparing for the 2023 ODI World Cup, and looking at this, Virat, Rohit, and Rahul have returned in the ODI setup; however, Shikhar Dhawan is getting his perfect stance in the ODI squad. This seems that Shubhman Gill will not be in the preference box of the Indian team for the ICC event next year.
