Brett Lee Names India’s Key Player To Win The Upcoming ICC ODI World Cup

India’s wait for an ICC trophy extends with another World Cup exit. India has now gone nine years without winning an ICC championship; the previous time was the Champions Trophy in 2013. Since then, MS Dhoni has retired, Rohit Sharma has taken over as captain, and Rahul Dravid has been promoted to coach. Jasprit Bumrah made his debut and has since established himself as the best pace bowler in the world of cricket. However, despite the passage of time, India’s wait for a World Cup victory continues.

They have repeatedly been on the verge of success only to fall short. Along with finishing second and clinching another semifinal finish in the World T20 in 2014 and 2016, respectively, India made it to the 50-over World Cup semi-final in 2015 and 2019. The upcoming 50-over World Cup in India may be the last opportunity for several of India’s well-known and prominent stars, like Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, to add a World Cup victory to their illustrious and brilliant resumes.

Prospects are promising as India ushers in a new age, particularly in T20 cricket where a younger group of players led by Hardik Pandya are grabbing the reins. The Indian team is coming together well with players like Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, and others. The Men in Blue, however, will also benefit from the expertise of Bumrah, KL Rahul, and skipper Pandya, creating a fantastic balance of youths and elders in the team. The one and only Suryakumar Yadav, who has lit up the T20 arena with his scorching batting, is the guy Brett Lee, a former Australian bowler, believes can break India’s drought in the ICC events, and win them the World Cup shortly.

Brett Lee on his YouTube channel said, “India did not win the T20 World Cup by the SKY rose. Of course, I am talking about Suryakumar Yadav. He is the new global T20 superstar. What a sensational 12-15 months he has had on the big stage. He has shown here on Australian grassy wickets where the ball skids through. His fearlessness and his shot selection are like a chess grandmaster. His execution is awe-inspiring and the smile on his face when he plays it is priceless.”

He added, “SKY was one of the highlights for me at the T20 World Cup. He continues to bat with the same attitude. Not only will he score big runs but he will also someday win a World Cup for Team India. I love watching him play. My advice to SKY would be… no advice. Keep doing what you are doing, don’t change, don’t complicate things, back yourself.”

Suryakumar ruled in the year 2022. He has not only ascended to the top of the ICC T20 batting rankings, but he also leads the league in runs scored this season. Despite being 32 years old, Surya can still play in the mega-event the next year as well as the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies. Lee believes that Suryakumar’s success is a result of his excellent fundamentals and refined technique. Having said that, Lee thinks that Surya’s thinking will be much influenced by captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid, and that SKY would likely be the only team to help India win important games and competitions.

He further said, “I like the way he executes the impossible shots because his basics are in place. He doesn’t go out there and just tries to hit t ball that isn’t there to hit. He has a wonderful technique and he is a player for the future. You can trust Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma to just let them be the person he needs to be. The SKY would rise and this could lead to many more peaks for India in years to come.”
