Brett Lee acknowledged Neeraj Chopra’s kind comments suggesting he could have excelled in the javelin throw.
In an interview with JioStar, the broadcaster for his season’s big events like the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, the Olympic gold medalist from Tokyo mentioned Lee’s potential in the sport. Chopra, who secured a silver medal in javelin at the 2024 Paris Olympics, noted hearing about Lee’s past as a javelin thrower, thinking he had the ability, especially during his prime. Chopra had consecutive wins at the Paris Diamond League event and Ostrava Golden Spike meet.
Lee responded on X, formerly Twitter, saying he did throw javelin in school but wasn’t close to Chopra’s level. He explained his choice not to pursue javelin, citing the stress it puts on the elbow.
Lee voiced his respect for Chopra, a popular athlete.
Very tough on the elbow. I have, admired what this fine athlete can do and wish him well, said Brett Lee.
Lee also said he’d be interested in trying javelin with Jasprit Bumrah, hoping to learn some bowling from him. He pointed out the differences between bowling and javelin, despite both being throwing motions.
After his Paris victory, Chopra was asked if he’d ever tried cricket, especially bowling. Chopra responded that he would also like to try his hand at baseball pitching.
