Muhammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq, who were on the earlier selection committee for the T20 World Cup squad, have been retained by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as part of the newly constituted selection committee that will be responsible for selecting the sides for the forthcoming home Test series against Bangladesh.
Yousuf and Shafiq were members of the former selection committee for the team that selected the T20 World Cup squad. Members Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were dropped by the PCB after the team failed to progress past the first round in the mega event but surprisingly has retained Yousuf and Shafiq.
Yousuf coached batsmen on the Pakistan side whilst Wahab accompanied them as manager for Ireland, England and the World Cup. The captain as well as the head coaches of the red and white-ball teams, shall form part of the new panel. In exercising their rights to vote, all members are entitled equally. This includes Yousuf and Shafiq who will also be entitled to make decisions.
There is a new development, in addition, the board has appointed the assistant team coach for Pakistan’s national cricket team, in far-off, non-voting capacity as committee members will be four of the board members/staff. These comprise: the advisor to PCB Chairman named Bilal Afzal; an Analytics and Team Strategy Manager, Hassan Cheema; High-Performance Director named Nadeem Khan; & International Cricket Director, Usman Wahla.”
“It is the restructured committee that will select the team for the two Tests against Bangladesh as part of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Dates when Bangladesh would play against Pakistan are set to be released in Rawalpindi on August 21-25 then move to Karachi from August 30th to September 3rd for more games”
