Former Indian cricket player Jhulan Goswami has become a mentor for the Trinbago Knight Riders before the 2024 Women’s Caribbean Premier League. Goswami stopped playing cricket in all forms in 2022, and she was India’s top wicket-taker in women’s international matches. She had a very successful international career that lasted 20 years, during which she took 355 wickets for India in different types of matches before retiring. Now, she is the bowling coach and mentor for the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League. This will be her first time as a mentor in a T20 league outside of India.
“I’m proud to be part of this excellent team,” Goswami mentioned in a message from Knight Riders. “Knight Riders have been very successful in India and globally, and I’m excited to be with TKR Women in the WCPL. I appreciate the KKR management for considering me as a coach, and I can’t wait for this competition.”
Goswami will offer advice to the team, led by versatile player Deandra Dottin. She successfully guided the TKR women to win the first season in 2021.
Goswami mentioned, “The discussion about me joining TKR began with Mr. Venky Mysore (CEO of Knight Riders group). He is a great leader who cares for everyone. I felt very honored when both Shah Rukh Khan and Mr. Mysore warmly welcomed me and talked to me during our meeting in Kolkata for the IPL.”
“Jhulan Goswami is a very famous and respected cricket player, and we are excited to have her as the coach for the Trinbago Knight Riders Women’s team. We think that with Jhulan as their coach, the team will play even better. It’s a great chance for young players to learn from Jhulan and use her knowledge to improve their own skills. We hope she does well and we can’t wait to see her working with the team soon,” said Mysore.
The Knight Riders team added strong players from other countries, including Jemimah Rodrigues, Meg Lanning, Shikha Pandey, and Jess Jonassen.
