Breaking News: Sunil Gavaskar Foresees Captaincy Change in IPL’s Ex-Champion Team

The biggest Twenty20 league IPL is going to start in just more than a month’s time; however, the news regarding the buzz of the IPL has already started to gather headlines.

One of the latest news stories that has set the internet on fire is an opinion from one of the greatest test batters and ace commentator, Sunil Gavaskar.

The greatest test batter has predicted a captaincy change in the team of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad was captained by Aiden Markram in the previous edition of the IPL, and under his captaincy, the team finished at the bottom of the table, winning just four out of the 14 encounters they played.

However, recently Aiden Markram won the SA 20 league title with the sister franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad and became the first skipper of the SA 20 league to defend the title. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad spent 20.5 crore on Australia’s World Cup-winning captain in the IPL auction, which was held in Dubai.

Cummins is the second most costly player to be purchased in the history of the IPL; the top being fellow teammate Mitchell Starc, who was purchased by KKR for a whopping 24.75 crores.

Since the time Cummins was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad, he has been in the talks to replace Aiden Markram as the new captain of the franchise; however, there’s been no official announcement as such.

Gavaskar feels that Cummins is going to captain Sunrisers Hyderabad in this edition of the IPL. Gavaskar also highlighted Cummins leadership qualities that he brings along with him. The leadership was lacking last time around for Sunrisers Hyderabad, which cost them most of their matches last year.

Cummins had a phenomenal 2023 as the skipper of the Australian team, where he won both the IICC World Test Championship and the ICC World Cup, beating India on both occasions.

Pat Cummins was also awarded cricketer of the year by the ICC, for which he expressed his gratitude, saying that this one is right on top in terms of individual achievement.
