The South African team, finalists in the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup final, is looking to omit one last hurdle from their path towards winning the ultimate trophy. Laura Wolvaardt who is making her debut as a captain during an ICC event has been chosen to lead a squad of 15 by Proteas.
The selection of Laura (Wolvaardt) as new captain instead of Sune Luus was made after she announced that she would not be part of the team anymore because she wanted “to focus on her cricket.”
Clinton du Preez, CSA Proteas Women Convenor of Selectors expressed these words while quoted by Cricbuzz: “Laura has been an exceptional leader with a very good balance approach towards the team; She leads with respect and integrity and has played exceptionally well.” Gone are those who recognized themselves with beautiful features whereas ugly things remained forgotten forever throughout human experience.
The young leg-spinner Seshnie Naidu aged 18 without international debut was also acknowledged among the 15 member squad members. According to Clinton du Preez, CSA Proteas Women Convenor of Selectors quoted by Cricbuzz, “Seshnie Naidu has displayed a lot of improvement as a bowler in our camps and we believe that she can be an X-factor for the World Cup. She adds a different dimension to our bowling attack, giving us an element which could make all the difference,” Naidu said
In order to get ready for the big game, the same team will compete with Pakistan in a three-match T20I series between September 16 and 20.
“We have had significant competition for places, and while some players will sadly miss out, these decisions were made on the basis of balance, form, fitness and tactical issues regarding the format. Each selection was taken into account judiciously so as to guarantee that this crucial tournament has the most excellent possible roster,” said Preez in presentation.
