In the ongoing t20I series against the Sri Lankan team, the Indian team got another setback in the form of Sanju Samson, who has been ruled out from the t20 series due to a knee injury.
He injured his knee while taking a catch in the very first over of the Sri Lankan inning. He will undergo a scan to check the injury’s seriousness.
BCCI has declared his replacement in the form of Jitesh Sharma. Sharma represents the Vidarbha team in Ranaji Trophy. He is one of the consistent performers for the Vidarbha but gets his recognition after his splendid performance for the Punjab Kings in the previous edition of IPL. For Punjab, he used to finish the innings and get recognition for his six-hitting capability.
Jitesh Sharam will find it difficult to get his place in the 11 in the 2nd t20I international as there are already 2 contenders in the squad in the form of Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Gaikwad’s playing chances are slim, contrary to Tripathi’s highest chance of replacing Samson in playing 11. Tripathi has experience of playing in middle overs, whereas Gaikwad generally plays as an opener.
