After serving as an Indian Premier League player with the Chennai Super Kings from 2008 to 2015, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took on a new position with the team. Ashwin took on the role of CSK’s high-performance center after being brought in by owners India Cements, even though he is still connected to the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. When the IPL 2025 season gets underway, the center should be fully functioning. Ashwin has been instrumental in its development, particularly in relation to CSK’s academies.
“Growing the game and contributing to the cricketing fraternity is my primary focus. I feel elated to be back to where it all began for me,” Ashwin said on his return to India Cements.
The legendary player’s decision to rejoin the team thrilled CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan as well. “Having Ashwin back has us thrilled. He will be a key member of our High-Performance Center and Superkings Ventures teams. He is renowned for his relentless pursuit of excellence and is among Tamil Nadu’s top cricket players. It is well known that he is dedicated to the game at all levels, whether it is for the club, Tamil Nadu, or India. He’ll be a fantastic leader to lead the center and develop the up-and-coming talent,” he stated, to Sportstar.
Ashwin’s return to CSK has been met with love, but it has also raised questions about whether he might play for the Super Kings going forward.
There will be a mega auction before the 2025 Indian Premier League season. It has been reported that the teams may only be permitted to keep a maximum of four players each, even if the specifics of retention are still being worked out. Ashwin might not be kept by the Royals if that occurs.
When Ashwin was a member of CSK, the team captained by MS Dhoni won back-to-back IPL titles in 2010 and 2011. Ashwin made sure that CSK qualified for the playoffs each of the following four seasons.
