Breaking News: Mushfiqur Rahim retires from ODI cricket

After a sharp note finished their Champions Trophy run, experienced Bangladeshi wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim declared his retirement from ODIs. On Wednesday Mushfiqur turned to Instagram to declare his quitting of the form. Thirty-seven years old, he said he reached his choice after some difficult weeks. “I am starting my retirement from the ODI format today. For all things, alhamdhul Allah. One thing is sure, Mushfiqur said on his Instagram: every time I got on the field for my nation, I worked with honesty and dedication.

The past few weeks have been very difficult for me, and I have come to understand that this is my fate. “Wa tu’izzu man tazaq” and “Wa tu’izzu man taza wa tu’izzu man taza” Allah says in the Quran And He honours whom He wills, and He disgraces whom He wills. May we all be granted good Iman and mercy from God. In conclusion, I would like very much to thank my colleagues, buddies, and fans for whom I have played cricket for the last 19 years.

Among the most experienced players for the Tigers and among the most accomplished cricketers for Bangladesh, Mushfiqur plays. Bangladesh’s fifth ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare in August 2006 saw Mushfiqur make his ODI debut.

Though he didn’t have the chance to bat or display his remarkable range of juggling, this was his first move toward pushing Bangladesh’s ODI to fresh levels.

Nineteen years later, Mushfiqur has ended his ODI career with an amazing 7,795 runs in 274 games at a 36.42 batting average, including nine centuries and 49 half-centuries.

Mushfiqur completes his rollercoaster journey as the second-highest run-scorer in Bangladesh, behind Tamim Iqbal with 8,357 runs. His 243 catches and 56 stumpings reflect his outstanding performance as a wicketkeeper.

With a golden duck from Axar Patel, the veteran star started his last dance for Bangladesh. In his second group stage game, Bangladesh was another forgettable outing for him.

Again, the seasoned Michael Bracewell punched his return ticket inexpensively on 2(5), besting him this time also. Constant downpour in Rawalpindi stole his final opportunity to create one more Bangladesh memory-fashioned nature.
