Tear-away pacer Jofra Archer is scheduled to play in the first Twenty20 International against Pakistan at Headingley on Wednesday, marking his eagerly awaited return to international cricket, according to England captain Jos Buttler.
Archer’s back stress fracture has kept him out of the international cricket team since March 2023.
He did, however, play for Sussex’s second XI lately, and he is currently included in the team for England’s upcoming T20 World Cup title defense in the Caribbean and the USA.
Buttler affirmed that Archer would play in the opening Twenty20 International of England’s four-match series against Pakistan. “I believe we should just monitor him and observe the situation, but he is now fully fit, which is fantastic.”
“A broad smile lights up his face. It’s fantastic to have him back in the group and to watch him bowl quickly and fit. I am aware of how much he has missed it. We must be realistic since he hasn’t played international cricket in a while, and it’s impossible to fully replace that, but we all know what a superstar he has been. When it comes to Jofra’s return, Buttler stated, “Of course it makes us a better side and gives us a better and better chance of winning games. Any player of his caliber is a huge asset to any team.”
Buttler stated this in reference to Archer’s comeback. However, we aren’t holding ourselves too high for too long. It matters that he merely takes pleasure in returning and playing cricket. The public wants to see Jofra play cricket because he is the captain of England and because it would be fantastic.”
Liam Livingstone and Mark Wood will miss the first game of the series against Pakistan because they are not yet ready to play, according to Buttler. Despite their dismal defense of the 50-over World Cup title in India last year, Buttler stressed that there is no extra pressure on his team as preparations for the T20 World Cup in June heat up through the Pakistan series.
Buttler stated on Tuesday that “there’s no extra pressure.” Clearly, that event caused significant damage to our pride. Although the competition was incredibly upsetting, life goes on. It’s a chapter in the book, and it contains certain lessons. However, we now have a fresh start and a new structure, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to represent the West Indies in the World Cup as the reigning champions and show off our abilities.”
