Rayudu’s first IPL success came in 2013 when he won the title with the Mumbai Indians. He played all the matches that season and went on to win two more titles in 2015 and 2017. In 2018, Rayudu joined CSK, where he developed a reputation as a power-hitter, particularly under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. He had his best strike rate of 149.75 in his debut season with CSK when the team won the title. That season also marked his highest run tally in the IPL, scoring 602 runs in 16 matches.
Rayudu was part of the CSK team that won the IPL in 2021 as well, with him contributing at a strike rate of 151.17 in 16 matches. The previous year, both Rayudu and CSK had a disappointing season, with the team finishing 9th on the points table. Rayudu had initially announced his retirement mid-way through the season but later reconsidered and continued playing for CSK.
In the 2023 season, Rayudu had mixed performances with the bat but retained the faith of captain MS Dhoni, featuring in all 15 matches. He scored 139 runs with a strike rate of 132.28.
Rayudu is among a select few players in the history of the IPL to have appeared in 200 or more matches. Currently, he stands as the 12th highest run-scorer in the league, with 4239 runs to his name.
