Breaking News: CSK Star Batter Announced His Retirement From IPL Ahead Of IPL 2023 Final

Ambati Rayudu, the star batter of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the final of the 2023 edition against the Gujarat Titans. Rayudu had been associated with CSK since 2018 and won two IPL titles with the franchise. He started his IPL career with the Mumbai Indians in 2010.

In a tweet, Rayudu expressed gratitude for his journey in the IPL, mentioning his time with both MI and CSK. He highlighted his achievements, including 204 matches played, 14 seasons, 11 playoff appearances, 8 finals, and 5 trophies. He hoped for a 6th trophy win in the final match. Rayudu confirmed that the final would be his last game in the IPL and emphasized that there would be no turning back on his decision.

Rayudu’s first IPL success came in 2013 when he won the title with the Mumbai Indians. He played all the matches that season and went on to win two more titles in 2015 and 2017. In 2018, Rayudu joined CSK, where he developed a reputation as a power-hitter, particularly under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. He had his best strike rate of 149.75 in his debut season with CSK when the team won the title. That season also marked his highest run tally in the IPL, scoring 602 runs in 16 matches.

Rayudu was part of the CSK team that won the IPL in 2021 as well, with him contributing at a strike rate of 151.17 in 16 matches. The previous year, both Rayudu and CSK had a disappointing season, with the team finishing 9th on the points table. Rayudu had initially announced his retirement mid-way through the season but later reconsidered and continued playing for CSK.

In the 2023 season, Rayudu had mixed performances with the bat but retained the faith of captain MS Dhoni, featuring in all 15 matches. He scored 139 runs with a strike rate of 132.28.

Rayudu is among a select few players in the history of the IPL to have appeared in 200 or more matches. Currently, he stands as the 12th highest run-scorer in the league, with 4239 runs to his name.
