Big Setback For MS Dhoni As CSK’S Biggest All Rounder Says Goodbye To IPL 2024

In a surprising turn, Ben Stokes, the dynamic all-rounder from Chennai Super Kings, has chosen to sit out of the upcoming IPL 2024. This decision, driven by the need to manage his workload and focus on fitness, adds a new layer to his cricketing journey. Chennai Super Kings, in response, expressed their support for Stokes in this pivotal decision.

Ben Stokes, the marquee player for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023, had been a significant asset to the team. His impactful performances were confined to the IPL and extended to his recent stint in the ODI World Cup 2023, where he emerged from retirement to represent England.

“England Test captain, all-rounder Ben Stokes, has made himself unavailable for IPL 2024 to manage his workload and fitness. Stokes, 32, became a part of the Super Kings ahead of the successful IPL 2023. He recently participated in the ODI World Cup 2023, for which he came out of retirement,” CSK’s statement read.

The announcement of his unavailability for IPL 2024 reflects Stokes’ commitment to prioritizing his fitness and workload management. His return to international ODI cricket is notable, indicating his determination to contribute to England’s cricketing journey.

Despite being Chennai Super Kings’ most expensive buy in the IPL 2023 auction, Stokes’ on-field contributions were limited due to the persisting knee issue. Playing only two games, his impact was curtailed, leaving fans and the franchise eager for his return to full form.

The long-standing left knee injury, which flared up during England’s tour of New Zealand, had raised concerns about Stokes’ readiness for a complete cricketing role. Coach Stephen Fleming’s cautious approach emphasized waiting for Stokes to be “100% ready” before resuming his bowling duties.

The ODI World Cup 2023 provided a platform for Stokes to showcase his prowess as one of England’s premier batters. Playing six games, he emerged as the team’s second-highest run-scorer, contributing significantly despite refraining from bowling. His performances included notable scores against Australia, Netherlands, and Pakistan.

The road ahead for Stokes involves rehabilitation and a collaborative effort with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to determine the timeline of his return. The uncertainty surrounding this comeback adds intrigue to his cricketing narrative.
