Big Blow For NZ, Kane Williamson Likely To Miss The 2023 ODI World Cup

According to a latest report, Kane Williamson will not be able to participate in the upcoming ODI Cricket World Cup due to a knee injury. Let us tell you that Kiwi superstar got injured while playing the first match against Chennai Super Kings.

On Thursday, New Zealand Cricket declared that Williamson, who was ruled out of IPL after the first game for the Gujarat Titans will have an operation on his injured right knee.

New Zealand Cricket Board talked on this matter and said,”standard rehabilitation timelines mean that Williamson is now unlikely to be fit and available for selection at this year’s ICC ODI Cricket World Cup in India”.

The recent scans suggests that, during his team Gujarat Titans’ match against Chennai Super Kings on March 31, Williamson suffered a rupture in his anterior cruciate ligament while fielding. It is anticipated that he will undergo knee surgery within the next three weeks.

After leading New Zealand to the runners-up position in the 2019 World Cup, Williamson emphasised the importance of his upcoming surgery and the need to focus on rehabilitating his knee as soon as possible. If everything goes right, he will be seen playing the World Cup 2023, but as now of he is no more in contention for the ODI World Cup.

“I’ve received great support over the past few days and want to thank both the Gujarat Titans and New Zealand Cricket for that,” Williamson said.

“Naturally, it’s disappointing to get such an injury, but my focus now is on having the surgery and starting rehab. It’s going to take some time, but I’ll be doing everything I can to get back on the field as soon as possible.”
