The star all-rounder of England, Ben Stokes made his comeback to the 50-over format for the upcoming ODI World Cup squad. However, he has now indicated that he may need knee surgery after the ODI World Cup, which means he may not be able to play in the Test series between India and England scheduled to start next year. Due to chronic tendonitis in his knee, England’s Test captain Stokes has been seen playing as a proper batsman.
Ben Stokes has confirmed that he will undergo knee surgery after the upcoming ODI World Cup which is scheduled to commence on October 5. There is a strong possibility that the prominent all-rounder will be unavailable for the five-match Test series against India, which is set to start on January 25.
“I know what’s going to happen, I just don’t think now is the right time to say what I’m doing,” Stokes told reporters on Thursday ahead of the first ODI against New Zealand.
“I’ve been having some good conversations with some specialists. There is a plan in place. It’s nice knowing after the World Cup we’ve got something, a really good plan we can do and we can stick to.” “I want to be playing next summer as a genuine all-rounder. This winter is all about playing this World Cup, then getting this knee sorted,” he added.
Stokes has made a comeback to England’s ODI squad after reversing his decision to retire from the format. He will be participating in the World Cup in India which begins on October 5 and the final will be played on November 19.
