The BCCI’s Apex Council meeting is scheduled for December 22, and the major topic of discussion likely would be the raising of match fees for women players in domestic cricket
With India winning the ODI World Cup one month ago, the voices demanding better payment and stronger support for women players have become quite loud. Now, the board has finally decided to take action.
BCCI meeting & women cricketers’ pay hike are synonyms in upcoming talks
As per Cricbuzz, the BCCI is set to increase the match fees for all women’s domestic tournaments, namely the Senior One-Day, Senior T20, and the multi-day competitions.
This move is not only triggered by the World Cup but also by a stronger pool of female players in India and the popularity of women’s cricket, which has been heightened with the WPL.
It is said that several state associations have recommended the board to align the pay not with the regional standards but with the global standards instead, so that eventually more players can be engaged in the sport as professionals, without being burdened financially.
If the revision ends up getting approved, then it will be one of the major advancements in Indian cricket along with other changes made this year. The increase in fees signifies a lot for the young players as it will not only secure them but also give them the chance to undergo better training and to be selected for the national team.
A BCCI Apex Council Meeting is scheduled for December 22, which will have six items on the agenda including discussing the contracts of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma since they will be playing only one format.
Mithun Manhas is going to be the person in charge of this meeting
The newly elected president of BCCI, Mithun Manhas, will be leading his first Apex Council meeting later the month.
The board is going to make a revision on the pay structure for domestic women cricketers and also review the payments for umpires and match referees. Furthermore, the stakeholders will be receiving the updates on BCCI’s digital platforms.
