BCCI To Take Final Call On Rohit Sharma’s Future With Team India

After winning ten continuous matches in the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023, team India lost the crucial final against Australia by six wickets at Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat. Despite the World Cup loss, Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in the tournament has earned him praise for adopting a fearless brand of cricket.

However, as the World Cup is over now, BCCI officials are keen to establish a roadmap for the future of Indian cricket.

As the current situation unfolds, BCCI officials are scheduled to engage in discussions with Rohit Sharma regarding his plans in white-ball cricket. After getting the captaincy role in 2021, Rohit’s primary responsibility was guiding India to success in the T20 World Cup 2022 and the ODI World Cup 2023. Despite the interim appointment of Rahul Dravid as the head coach, the duo fell short of securing any trophies.

According to a reliable source close to The Times of India, Rohit Sharma has reportedly talked to Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and other officials that he is willing not to be part of India’s T20I team.

Currently, Rohit Sharma has captained the Indian Team at the age of 36 in the ODI World Cup and when the next World Cup arrives in 2027, Rohit will be turning 40, which will be almost impossible for him to make it into the squad.

“As of now, it seems Rohit will be focusing a lot of his energy on the Test format for the next cycle of the World Test Championship which runs till 2025. Grooming a captain for the longer formats is a key part of the agenda. With Hardik Pandya prone to injuries, selectors may look for options in ODIs,” a source told The Times of India.
