The 93rd Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) of the BCCI is scheduled to be held here on September 29, but it is unlikely that the board will elect a new secretary at this high-profile summit.
On the occasion, though, all board members shall be in town as it coincides with the inauguration of state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy (NCA) center in the outskirts.
For over two decades now, the M Chinnaswamy stadium premises continue to be where NCA operates from.
Also, while there will not be an election for a new BCCI secretary during such meeting, here is where the Special General Meeting (SGM) date could be fixed for that purpose.
When Jay Shah was elected unopposed ICC Chairman, appointing a new secretary became mandatory.
However, since he has only until December 1 to switch offices, then he cannot resign his current position as BCCI sec at the AGM in line with this requirement.
In the meeting’s 18-point agenda that has been sent to all state associations, one other critical issue is the appointment of BCCI’s representative for ICC meetings, since Shah will no longer fill that position.
It is likely that current BCCI president Roger Binny may be considered as a candidate for the board’s representation at ICC or this may fall upon incoming secretary.
Besides, age is not on Binny’s side at 69 years with 70 being age limit in administration.
AGM also has some other pressing matters including induction of two representatives of general body into IPL Governing Council and one representative of Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA) into IPL Governing Council.
Besides these two, other standard board activities will include: ratifying annual budget for 2024-25 and appointing Ombudsman and Ethics Officer.
Cricket Committee and Standing Committee will be appointed in accordance with BCCI Constitution during the meeting along with new Umpires Committee under the Rule 27.
The AGM will also take into account the ‘Report of Internal Committee of BCCI formed under Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy’ in addition to approving domestic cricket regulations created by Apex Council.
