BCCI Is Ready To Implement “Yo-Yo” And “DEXA” Test In The Selection Process; Check Full Details Here

On 1st January 2023, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held a review meeting with skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, and chief selectors Chetan Sharma to discuss the low performance of the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2022. The discussion took over under the leadership of the BCCI Chief Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah and NCA head VVS Laxman. They further discussed the future of the Indian cricket team in every format.

The BCCI has taken multiple measures in the review meeting and will introduce some new selection criteria for workload management.

According to BCCI, “Yo-Yo” and “DEXA” tests are again implemented in the Indian team for the selection criteria. Both are “implemented in the customized roadmaps of the central pool of players.”

What is DEXA?

DEXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) is an imaging test that measures bone density. This test is conducted to measure bone strength and can also provide information about a potential fracture in the bone. The scan produces two types of beans — high energy and low energy. Both beams pass through the bone, and the number of X-rays emitted is measured to find the bone density.

Further, BCCI added in its statement to manage the workload of some selected players for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. This measure has been taken looking at the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 in India.

“Keeping in mind the Men’s FTP and preparations for ICC CWC 2023, the NCA will work in tandem with the IPL Franchisee to monitor the targeted Indian players participating in the IPL 2023,” further BCCI added in the statement.

BCCI has also taken up a new rule for emerging players. They have decided to give a chance to the emerging players before giving them a chance in the national team.

“The emerging players will have to play a considerable domestic season to be eligible for selection to the national team,” the BCCI statement at the review meeting.

It will be interesting to see how these measures will affect Indian cricket in every format and when will BCCI will appoint the new selector chief for the men in blue. There are no further updates have been provided by the BCCI’s officials on the skipper of the Indian team in a different format.
