BCCI Invites Applicant For Head Coach Role, New Face To Be Announced Soon

On Monday, June 13, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declared the availability of applications for the head coach position of the senior men’s national cricket team. With Rahul Dravid’s tenure coming to an end after the T20 World Cup in June, the BCCI, renowned for its financial strength, has established a deadline of May 27 for aspiring candidates to apply for this esteemed role.

The BCCI made it clear in an official statement that the forthcoming head coach appointment would entail 3.5 years, commencing on July 1, 2024, and concluding on December 31, 2027. Notably, Rahul Dravid’s extended tenure, following the ODI World Cup, will reach its end after the imminent T20 World Cup, concluding on June 29. India is scheduled to compete in the Champions Trophy in 2025 and the ODI World Cup in 2027.

“Applications for the position should be submitted by 6 PM IST on May 27, 2024. The selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates,” the BCCI said in a statement.

During a recent press conference, BCCI secretary Jay Shah affirmed that Rahul Dravid would have the opportunity to reapply for the head coach position. Shah underscored that Dravid’s tenure wouldn’t be extended automatically, highlighting the requirement for him to undergo the application process like any other candidate.

“We cannot determine whether the new coach will be Indian or foreign. It will be up to the CAC, and we are a global body,” Shah said.
