Although the Champions Trophy 2025 match between India and Pakistan was a one-sided contest where Sharma’s men outperformed the opponents in all departments and edged the men in green by six wickets, fans stand the chance of watching three more battles later this year when the Asia Cup is held; if reports circulating in all media outlets are to be believed. From the second to the fourth week of September, twenty-night games will be organized in Dubai, each to last for T20 format.
Reports state that the Asia Cup 2025 was allocated to India, but given India’s relationship with Pakistan, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) decided to shift it to a neutral country. Although the nomination as a host has not yet been made official, the report states that Sri Lanka and UAE are likely to be made that choice. BCCI remains as the proposed host.
Pakistan is the designated host for the Champions Trophy 2025; however, India is unwilling to play in Pakistan as BCCI refused to send its team back there. The two teams had a long and ugly confrontation with the result the place of India’s matches was shifted to Dubai.
“An important ACC decision was that the tournament has to be hosted by a neutral country either when it is the turn of the BCCI or the PCB to do so. A document in possession of this website states in no uncertain terms,” said the report.
“This decision, understandably, is taken to avoid any controversy between the two teams not wanting to travel to either of the countries.”
Eight teams-Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, UAE, Oman, and HongKong-will compete in the Asia Cup 2025 besides India and Pakistan.
In general, the Asia Cup is split between two groups of four teams each. India and Pakistan will almost always be in the same group. The top two teams from each group will go to the Super Four stage. The top two teams in Super 4 then enter the final. Generally, the groupings in Asia Cup are kept in such a way that there is a high probability of there being at least two India versus Pakistan matches. And a third one if the two teams reach the finals.
