BCCI drops a massive verdict on Bengaluru stampede

What was supposed to be an exciting moment for Royal Challengers Bengaluru turned tragic just a day after they won their first IPL title. After an 18-year wait, RCB got a warm welcome back home, but things took a terrible turn when a stampede left 11 people dead and nearly 50 injured outside Chinnaswamy Stadium. Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, including Nikhil Sosale, a marketing official for RCB, who was taken into custody at Kempegowda International Airport.

Now, BCCI is considering new rules for celebrating victories. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated, “We can’t just sit back and watch. We have a responsibility for cricket in India, and we’ll do what we can to prevent such incidents in the future.”

Gautam Gambhir, India’s cricket coach, also spoke out, saying road shows shouldn’t happen after wins. He emphasized, “People’s lives matter more. Celebrations are important, but safety is a priority. If we can’t manage the crowd, it’s better to avoid road shows altogether.”

Smriti Mandhana, a star batter for India, shared her sorrow on Instagram regarding the losses, saying, “Heartbroken to hear about the lives lost in Bengaluru. My thoughts and prayers are with the families. Please stay safe.”
