Bangladeshi Skipper Shakib Al Hasan Ruled Out Of ODI World Cup 2023, Check The Big Reason Here

An unfortunate injury has now cast a shadow on the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Bangladesh’s charismatic skipper, Shakib Al Hasan, who was leading his team with distinction, found himself sidelined due to an injury to his left index finger. This unexpected setback has not only altered the dynamics of the tournament but also raised questions about Bangladesh’s future in the competition.

The injury unfolded during Bangladesh’s penultimate league stage game against Sri Lanka in Delhi on 6th November 2023. It was a pivotal match with significant implications for both teams’ progression in the tournament.

An X-ray conducted after the game revealed a fracture on Shakib’s left proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint. This unfortunate diagnosis left no room for ambiguity, as it meant that Shakib would be unable to continue participating in the World Cup.

National Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said, “Shakib was struck on his left index finger early in his innings but continued to bat with supportive taping and painkillers. He underwent an emergency X-ray in Delhi after the game, which confirmed the fracture on the left PIP joint. Recovery is estimated at three to four weeks. He will leave for Bangladesh today to begin his rehab.”

The road to recovery from this finger fracture is expected to span three to four weeks. Shakib Al Hasan’s immediate priority is rehabilitation, and he will be heading back to Bangladesh to commence this process.

Ironically, Shakib sustained the injury while delivering a match-winning performance. In the game against Sri Lanka, he crafted a sensational innings, scoring 82 runs from 65 balls, adorned with 12 fours and two sixes. This fearless display of batting was instrumental in securing a three-wicket victory for Bangladesh.

Shakib’s contributions were not confined to batting alone. Earlier in the match, he showcased his prowess with the ball, recording figures of 2/57. This stellar all-round display in a high-pressure encounter rightfully earned him the Player of the Match award.

Shakib Al Hasan’s leadership, both as a captain and a seasoned player, has been the linchpin of Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign. His absence from the crucial clash against Australia in Pune on 11th November is a significant setback for the team.

Beyond his skills as a cricketer, Shakib’s astute leadership and tactical acumen will be sorely missed. His ability to galvanize the team and make strategic decisions under pressure has been a source of strength for Bangladesh.

Shakib’s all-round abilities, as highlighted by his performance against Sri Lanka, provided balance to the team. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball has been invaluable to Bangladesh.
