Recently, Bangladesh’s Sports Adviser, Asif Nazrul, proclaimed that his anti-India narrative had been supported by the ICC and went on to say that the International Cricket Council had recognized the security concerns that had been mentioned by the country’s cricket board and government. In a press conference, Nazrul narrated that the ICC had recognized three situations in the 2026 T20 World Cup that would be a danger to the Bangladeshi players and their fans. ICC, however, quickly denied those allegations and released a statement saying that such an assessment had never even been communicated to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
The ICC in its official communication reaffirmed that the T20 World Cup 2026 would not in any way be affected by the current schedule. The authority made it clear that the overall security hazard for the tournament in India had been rated “low to moderate” which is the same as that of most of the major global sports events.
There is a report saying that the independent risk assessments did not establish any specific or direct threats whatsoever against the Bangladesh team, its officials, or any match venue in India.
Nazrul’s Controversial Claims
In the Monday briefing Nazrul mentioned the alleged the findings of the ICC. “We sent two letters to the ICC after this their security team replied,” Nazrul claimed. “They said the security threat to the Bangladesh team would increase if three conditions were fulfilled:
- Mustafizur Rahman is in the squad
- Supporters wear Bangladesh’s national Team jersey in public.
- The upcoming Bangladesh elections.
“This so-called statement shows that the environment in India is not good for us and thus the ICC expects us to forfeit our best bowler, to ask our fans to hide their jerseys or even to postpone elections for a tournament, these are outrageous and unreasonable expectations.”

The firm rebuttal from the ICC has acted to them and is simply debunking the narrative that Nazrul created among the ongoing political tensions between the two countries. This contradiction has put the sports leadership of Bangladesh in a humiliating situation, especially since the very nature of the claims made concerning Mustafizur Rahman and the national jersey being so specific.
The ICC has affirmed that its stance remains the same and expects all nations participating in the tournament to meet their Terms of Participation. It is anticipated that the ICC will soon issue a formal, comprehensive communication concerning this matter.
