Bangladesh Announce 16-Member Squad For Ireland ODI Series, Star Player Dropped

Bangladesh and Ireland are scheduled to take up against each other in a three-game ODI series, which will commence on March 18. The matches will take place at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium based in Sylhet. After the ODI series, the two teams will then lock horns in a three-match T20I series and a single Test match against each other.

The Bangladesh cricket team’s selectors have decided to rest their key batsman, Mahmudullah, for the first two (ODIs) against Ireland. This decision has been made to provide opportunities to other players at the highest level. Mahmudullah, who made his debut in 2007, has played in 218 ODIs for Bangladesh. However, his recent performance was unsatisfactory as he could only score 71 runs in three matches during the England series.
The chief selector of the Bangladesh Cricket Board Minhajul Abedin explained the reason behind resting Mahmudullah.
Minhajul Abedin said,””Mahmudullah is rested. We have given others a platform to do well at the highest level. Zakir has been doing well. Shoriful is returning due to his full fitness. This is actually the easiest time to see everyone’s form in a World Cup year.”

Tamim Iqbal will captain this Bangladesh side and some known players have been dropped from the squad in order to give a chance to the youngsters. Shamim Hossain and Taijul Islam have been dropped from the squad. Zakir Hasan, a batter who has not played an ODI match before, has been included in the team. Yasir Ali, left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed, and left-arm quick Shoriful Islam have also been added to the squad.
