India’s new long Test season faced troubles as Bangladesh bowlers put Rohit Sharma’s side on pressure on Thursday. India started badly with seniors like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli getting out for single digit scores. The team would have been in a much worse situation had it not been for the performance put up by a few middle order batsmen during the first day of the first Test match in Chennai. However, it was Yashasvi Jaiswal who managed to stand out as he batted patiently for 56 runs from 118 balls while putting together a 62-run partnership with Rishabh Pant (39runs from 52 balls). That said, both were almost caught out on multiple occasions.
The first time it happened was when Pant was marking his run with a flick off Hasan Mahmud in the 12th over.
After the completion of the first run, attempts for the second were made by him but by then the ball had slowed down. When Nahid Rana collected the ball, he was not that swift. Meanwhile, there was an appeal for a third run from Indian batters although Jaiswal was somewhat slow to respond. Even Pant was unable to complete his run. However, in desperation Jaiswal dived and just about entered into the pitch. Variables seemed both shocked and relieved simultaneously at them all.
Jaiswal told pant “Slip ho gaya yaar (I slipped)”.
Commentating Dinesh Karthik remarked “Both Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t know what to do; they were shocked”.
Again later, players crossed each other on the field. Jaiswal again dived for completing single run. To which Pant asked him “Bach gaya thha na (You were safe).”
Talking regarding the game, on Thursday in Chennai for Bangladesh the first Test of a two match series was held where Yashasvi Jaiswal scored toughly 56 runs off 118 balls. At the end of the second session the hosts were at 176 for 6 after 48 overs with Ravindra Jadeja (7) and Ravichandran Ashwin (21).
The second session resumed from 88/3 Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant on the crease. Pant was dismissed by Hasan Mahmud on 39; it was his fourth wicket.
Then came KL Rahul to crease who scored 16 runs and was outed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the total score at that time was 144.KL Rahul came to the crease and scored 16 after which he was dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the total run rate was equal as well to that of Jaiswal’s at that point where the later had already made 9 boundaries in his inning only to be caught behind off an alarming bouncer.
