On Thursday, June 6, in the eleventh match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam wrote history during his innings against the United States of America. In Dallas, Babar broke Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli’s record to become the all-time top run-scorer in T20I history.
Just 16 runs were required by Babar to beat Virat Kohli’s record for most T20I runs prior to Pakistan’s opening match of the competition. The brilliant opener overcame Kohli to take the top spot with 4,067 runs in 113 innings after reaching 4,000 runs in the shortest international format in his previous innings.
In India’s crushing victory in their season opener in New York on June 5, Kohli was unable to increase his total after scoring just one run against Ireland. To reach 4,000 T20I runs, Indian captain Rohit Sharma struck a spectacular fifty, briefly surpassing Babar in the run-scoring standings.
