Babar Azam breaks MS Dhoni’s elusive record in Pakistan’s final match of the T20 world Cup 2024

Pakistan’s team leader, Babar Azam, broke the record previously held by famous ex-Indian captain MS Dhoni in the T20 World Cup. Babar had a calm and steady performance for his team, the Green Shirts, in their final match of the current 20-over World Cup against Ireland.

Pakistan is no longer in the competition because the USA and India have moved on to the Super Eight from Group A. Pakistan needed to win and for the USA to lose, but the USA’s game against Ireland was canceled due to rain.

However, Pakistan might feel a bit better if they win their last game and if Babar sets a new record in their match against Ireland at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill. Babar has now scored more runs as a captain in T20 World Cups than anyone else, including MS Dhoni. Babar’s 32 runs in the game against Ireland put him ahead of both Kane Williamson and Dhoni. Babar has now scored 549 runs in 17 innings in all the T20 World Cups, while Dhoni scored 529 runs in 29 innings. Williamson, whose New Zealand team is also out of the tournament, scored 527 runs as captain in 19 innings.

Most runs as captain in T20 World Cups:

549 – Babar Azam (17 inns)*

529- Ms Dhoni (29 innings )

527- Kane Williamson (19 innings)

360- Mahela Jaywardhane (11 innings)

352 -Greme Smith (16 innings )

Pakistan beat Ireland by seven wickets in a game with low scores, where the end of the chase was quite close. They needed to score 107 runs to win, and they faced some difficulty when they had to get 12 runs in the last two overs with only four wickets left. However, they managed to win with Abbas Afridi scoring 17 runs and Shaheen Afridi making 13 runs.
