The first Test between Pakistan and Australia was played in Perth where the host won the game by 360 runs. Meanwhile, upsetting news is coming for the Pakistan cricket team fans as Pakistan has been docked two points in the points table of the World Test Championship. This happened for maintaining a slow over rate in the first game.
They were found to be short of the target by two overs when time allowances were factored in. After the defeat by 360 runs in the Perth Test, Pakistan had dropped to the second position in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings. The penalty further reduced their points percentage from 66.67 to 61.11.
Pakistan was additionally fined 10% of their match fee and these penalties were administered by match referee Javagal Srinath. The charge was leveled by the Test umpires, Joel Wilson, Richard Illingworth, Michael Gough, and fourth umpire Donovan Koch. The new Test Captain of the side Shan Masood accepted the offense and the penalty was sanctioned by the Board.
As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, pertaining to minimum over-rate offenses, players are fined five percent of their match fee for each over if their team fails to bowl within the decided time.
