‘At Least Send Him To Asian Games’, Robin Uthappa Raised Voice For Sanju Samson

Former Indian opener and one of the most elegant batters, Robin Uthappa has shown his disappointment after the exclusion of Sanju Samson from the team. Not only of the ODI World Cup Squad, Sanju is also not part of the three-match ODI series against Australia.

Uthappa highlighted that Sanju Samson’s omission was surprising, especially after a couple of impressive performances in ODIs. He suggested that considering Samson is not part of their plans for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, the selectors should have included him in the squad of the Asian Games 2023.

While talking in his latest YouTube video, Uthappa said,”I find it wrong to not have Sanju Samson in the squad. He has done well whenever he has gotten an opportunity in ODIs. Yes, he has been inconsistent in T20Is, but his performances in ODIs have been quite good. The justification would be that he won’t be in the XI, so why keep him in the squad?”

He further added,”But I think it is important to have continuity. In the case of Sanju, they haven’t done that. He was in the reserves for the Asia Cup but wasn’t picked for the Australia series. At least send him to the Asian Games. It is very normal to be dejected as a player when you don’t get support despite doing well.”

Samson has scored 390 runs from 12 ODI innings at an impressive average of 55.71. Despite his solid performance, it appears that Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul have been given preference in the lineup for the wicket-keeper batter’s position in India’s 50-over team.
