Asia Cup 2023: Why Shreyas Iyer Is Not Playing The Super-4 Match Against Pakistan

India and Pakistan are facing each other today at R Premadasa Stadium in the super-4 stage match. In this match, Babar Azam won the toss and elected to bowl first. Captain Rohit Sharma announced at the toss that the middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer would be absent from the India vs. Pakistan Super Four game in the 2023 Asia Cup.

The captain disclosed that wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul will take Shreyas Iyer’s place in the playing XI for the match against Pakistan. Additionally, pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to make a comeback to the team after the birth of his child.

Shreyas Iyer had recently rejoined the team right before the Asia Cup this year. He is making his comeback after a lengthy absence due to a back injury he sustained following the fourth test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India back in March 2023.

Due to his slipped disc, Shreyas Iyer was unable to participate in the IPL 2023 season with the Kolkata Knight Riders as well as all international matches from March to September, as he had to undergo surgery to address the injury.
